PRESENTATION OF THE FESTIVAL

The “Roman Days Festival” was set up in 2005, with the intention to provide the audience with a high level cultural and instructive event, which should bring a unique standpoint among the great Romanian events of the kind.

The first edition of the “Roman Days Festival” was organized at the same time with ”Zalau Fortress Festival”, between 29 – 31 July 2005. The major success of the first edition made us set another date for our festival, which should be different from ”Zalau Fortress Festival”. As a consequence, this year Zalau will host two distinct events: the “Roman Days Festival” (30 June, 1 and 2 July) and the “Fortress Festival” (29 July).
Even since its first edition, the “Roman Days Festival” was an international one as several European Union artists attended it. Due to its great success, the number of foreign participants has significantly increased this year.

The second edition of the festival will take place at Zalau (30 June and 1 July) and Porolissum-Moigrad (2 July). The reason for including the Roman camp as a location for the artistic programs of the festival was the intention to give a chance to as many as possible tourists to see the ruins of the Roman settlement Porolissum, the former capital of the imperial province Dacia Porolissensis.

The glory of the Roman Empire will be revived for three days at Zalau and Porolissum as well. The former empire, an area of culture and civilization which brought harmony to the European continent, built the foundation for what we call today the European Union. The second edition of the “Roman Days Festival” is to revive pieces of the culture, civilization and traditions of the Roman Empire (military life and organization, the image of a battle, trade, handicraft within the empire, theatre, music and dance in antiquity).

Since the “Roman Days Festival” is highly likely to be included in an international circuit of events of this kind (Austria – Hungary - Germany - Romania), we are encouraged to go on with this high level happening. The success of the festival proves the eagerness of the audience for events which bring forward a cultural approach for entertainment.
